Old Walls, New Stories

After a fire gutted this beloved North Shore Italian restaurant, Piatti’s owners didn’t just rebuild – they rethought everything. The 15-year-old institution, set in a converted stone house in Rosemère, now balances its history with sharp design moves that make the space feel entirely fresh.

Walk in and you’ll notice the showstopper right away: a dramatic green Saint-Denis marble wall that frames the pizza oven. It’s bold but it works, especially against the black fluted paneling and warm oak floors. The designers, Ivy Studio, weren’t shy about mixing materials – there’s cane-backed bistro chairs, sage and rust-colored velvet banquettes, and clever marble inlays that catch your eye as you move through the space.

The lighting deserves special mention: custom curved lamps along the bar cast the kind of glow that makes everyone look like they’re having their best night out. Above, statement chandeliers with globe-tipped arms feel both playful and sophisticated. As evening falls, recessed lights illuminate the original stone walls, turning them into a textural backdrop for dinner service.

The restaurant spreads across three distinct zones. There’s the bar area, tucked into the original stone house – it’s the kind of cozy spot where you’d want to linger over an aperitivo. The main dining room opens to a waterfront terrace, flooding the space with natural light. And for those seeking more privacy, there’s an intimate room sectioned off by fluted glass.

It’s a space that understands what makes a great restaurant: thoughtful design that sets the stage for good food and good company, without trying too hard to impress.
