This Week's Edition
Inside a secluded Rancho Mirage hillside in Palm Springs, Palm Springs Retreat transforms a 1960s dwelling into desert luxury.
Designers Tim Pfeiffer and Javier Segura Villagran reimagined the southwest-facing residence with mountain views, creating seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces. The home's Sandrift interiors, Grainth kitchen, and Reflectra landscaping harmonize with the natural surroundings, drawing inspiration from desert colors and textures while blending contemporary elegance with organic warmth.

The Nostalgia of Palm Springs Mid-Century Modern Homes
There’s something quietly magical about the courtyards of Palm Springs—a seamless fusion of indoor and outdoor living that feels both intimate and expansive. These private oases, often hidden behind unassuming walls, are where Mid-Century Modern design meets desert serenity. Sunlight filters through swaying palms, casting intricate shadows on terrazzo floors, while the sound of a trickling fountain mingles with the rustle of wind through agave leaves. Courtyards here are designed for slow living: a place to sip morning coffee under the shade of a pergola or unwind at dusk beside a fire pit, all framed by clean geometric lines and earthy textures. Whether enclosed by breezeblock screens, softened by drought-tolerant greenery, or anchored by a shimmering turquoise pool, these spaces blur the line between architecture and nature. They’re a reminder that in Palm Springs, even the most minimalist spaces pulse with life—cool, calm, and effortlessly chic.
Sunnylands: A Desert Jewel of Mid-Century Modern Majesty
Located in Rancho Mirage, Sunnylands is more than just a historic estate—it’s a masterpiece of desert modernism, where diplomacy, Hollywood glamour, and visionary design collide. Built in 1966 by philanthropists Walter and Leonore Annenberg, this 200-acre retreat became the “Camp David of the West,” hosting presidents and royalty. But its true allure lies in its timeless architecture and lush, minimalist gardens.
Designed by A. Quincy Jones, the low-slung, pink-roofed mansion embodies California modernism with clean lines, floor-to-ceiling glass, and seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The interiors, curated by William Haines, mix bold colors, sleek furnishings, and curated art (think Warhol and van Gogh). Outside, the gardens—by William Pereira—balance geometric precision with desert wildness: shimmering pools, meandering gravel paths, and vibrant bougainvillea.
Today, Sunnylands’ visitor center (designed by Frederick Fisher) continues the legacy with solar-paneled roofs and drought-tolerant landscaping—proving that mid-century design still feels fresh. A true desert icon.

100 Homes, One Icon
Our 100th edition was a landmark moment — a celebration of vision, dedication, and our enduring love for design in all its forms. At Inside, it marked the culmination of years spent telling stories through architecture, interiors, and thoughtful living. We knew this milestone deserved a feature home that would resonate deeply — timeless, extraordinary, and unforgettable.
We found that in the Southampton Oceanfront Residence, a modernist triumph by the acclaimed BMA Architects. Set along the Atlantic shoreline, the home stands as a sculptural testament to clarity, simplicity, and innovation — with glass, concrete, and wood in perfect harmony.
Inside, the palette was soothing and elemental: soft neutrals, curated textures, and bespoke pieces that whispered quiet luxury. From the statement stone island in the kitchen to the spa-like bathrooms and ocean-facing bedrooms, every detail reflected intentional, beautiful living.
This home became the perfect embodiment of everything Inside stands for. Through this feature, we honored not only the brilliance of BMA Architects but also the spirit of Inside — a magazine shaped by elegance, substance, and a deep appreciation for homes that tell a story.
